Idina Menzel is the voice of Frozen movie heroine Elsa and her ubiquitous, award-winning song, ‘Let It Go’.
Menzel is a popular and decorated stage performer (she has numerous Tony awards) but has also appeared in various screen roles and released a number of successful music albums throughout her extensive career.
The New York native started out as a teenaged wedding and batmitzvah singer, a job she maintained while completing a Fine Arts university degree. She debuted on Broadway in ‘Rent’ and went on to become one of the world’s best-known musical stars, before finding new levels of success with her work in Frozen.
Though Idina, who comes from Russian-Jewish heritage, has said that she is a spiritual person and not a religious one, her identity as a Jew is unequivocal:
“I am a Jewish woman and I feel strong connections to my culture. I would like to bring my children up with knowledge of the stories and awareness of the history”
