30. Gwyneth Paltrow

100 Women of Influence

Gwyneth Paltrow isn’t just an award-winning Hollywood actress with an Oscar, Golden Globe and Emmy under her belt. She’s also a powerful businesswoman who founded and runs successful wellbeing and beauty company, Goop.

Gwyneth gained fame as an actress in the mid-90s when she starred in Se7en, with future fiancé, Brad Pitt, and followed up with a string of successful roles. She also became involved with a number of charitable causes over the years, including the Save the Children organisation and the Robin Hood Foundation, which works to alleviate poverty in New York City.

Gwyneth grew up celebrating the holidays of both Judaism and Christianity – her father was famous Jewish movie producer, Bruce Paltrow, and her mother, Christian actress, Blythe Danner. She has spoken freely however about deciding to raise her own children as Jewish, as well as the fact that she feels very connected to Jewish culture and descends from a family of influential Eastern European rabbis.

“Creating a meal for my family and friends, sitting together, eating, laughing and talking, that’s when I’m happy. Oh my God, if you saw the amount of food that I do. I am the original Jewish mother.”
