Gilla Liberman has devoted over 40 years to WIZO and said she is “honoured” to have been recognised with a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for her significant service to the Jewish Community and to women.
Her Immediate reaction was shock, and told The Jewish News the award feels like vindication for the impactful work she and WIZO have done.
“I started to think about it and realised this is really a reward not just for me, but for all of WIZO,” Liberman said.
“We’ve been pulling together really well, especially in NSW, and I think that’s the result. I did put heart and soul into it, but I was rewarded in so many ways that it was worth it”.
“I’m thrilled with the award and I thank everyone who was involved with organising it because I know it’s a business to put it all together. We’re able to achieve wonderful things that we had never thought of”
President of WIZO NSW, Nilly Berger, commented:
“I am so thrilled to see that Gilla’s years of dedication and leadership have been recognised in such an appropriate way.
It’s a well-deserved achievement and it makes me proud to have been a part of her WIZO team for so long.
Gilla has a wonderful kind and giving nature which she couples with determination and a fair amount of “worry” times.
These have served her well as she strived to achieve all the goals she set to make WIZO stronger.
Feeling so much joy for you Gilla. Mazaltov”
