Implementation of WIZO’s Equal Pay Law

From World WIZO Chairperson Anita Friedman

Dear chaverot,

Nearly two years ago, I reported to you on a dramatic achievement for WIZO: legislation initiated and intensely lobbied for by us, WIZO’s Equal Pay for Women and Men Bill, was passed into law by the Knesset. The law obligates employers with large work forces to publish an annual report detailing the pay gaps between their male and female employees. This transparency will help women achieve fairness and equality in their wages.

The deadline for the publication of this information was set for the beginning of this month, and numerous Israeli companies and institutions released reports with data on gaps in salaries between men and women in their work force.

This attracted wide media coverage, placing sharp public focus on this issue. There can be no doubt that this exposure and transparency will contribute to the narrowing of those gaps, where they exist.

This is a concrete achievement for advancing women’s rights in the workplace, which is an issue of great moral and practical importance for Israel’s society and economy. And it is WIZO that is responsible for this.

I know that you share with us a strong sense of pride and inspiration at this important achievement for the women of Israel.

Best regards,

Anita
