50. Joy Balkind OAM

Joy  has been a member of WIZO for over 70 years.

Joy served as Honorary Treasurer of her group and then became Honorary Treasurer of WIZO NSW in the late 1970’s.This position involved the handling of all funds raised by all volunteer WIZO groups in NSW. She also served as Vice President of WIZO NSW

At the Federal level, Joy served as Federal Organisation Chairperson from 1983-89, and represented WIZO on the National Council of Women for many years. Joy was an Executive member of WIZO Australia, of which she is an Honorary Life Member.

She was involved in a voluntary capacity as an Executive Member of the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies. She was elected to the Board of the Executive Council of Australian Jewry and represented this body at international Jewish conferences.

WIZO was fortunate to have the benefit of Joy’s energy, wisdom and incisive intelligence over so many years. She encouraged many younger women to take on active roles in WIZO and other communal organisations, and she is a true role model of selfless service to her community.
