During the months of lockdowns in Israel earlier this year, two disturbing trends emerged. There was a 200% increase in domestic violence and relationship abuse. And there was a 700% increase in cases of child abuse.
As a result, women’s shelters across Israel are now full. But what happens after they leave the shelter?
As the largest welfare organisation in Israel, WIZO will do whatever it takes to prevent and intervene in family violence. As such, WIZO’s Safety Net Program was created to help women leave the cycle of abuse, to find independence and stay safe and strong.
It also offers women occupational rehabilitation towards the goal of finding and maintaining a job, which is key to their financial independence. This includes training to ensure they can work in today’s digital world.
As you read this, hundreds of women and children – from all communities, religious affiliations and cultural backgrounds – rely on Safety Net to improve their lives and leave the abuse, fear and isolation they have experienced in the past.
To ensure women all over Israel have a safety net, we need your help.
