WIZO’s National Emergency Shelter was opened in May this year, as a response to the increase in domestic violence cases during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Now, as Israel is locked down for a second time, there is a real danger that frayed tempers and frustrations may once again lead to violence, and even death.
WIZO’s emergency shelter has provided a safe haven for over 96 mothers and 136 children who escaped from violent homes, and we expect these numbers to rise. The shelter is a refuge in which women and their children are able to quarantine safely before being transferred to a regular shelter.
So many women’s lives have been saved, and saving lives is at the very pinnacle of WIZO’s ethos of doing what matters.
You see, thanks to WIZO, there is a place to hide.
